You see, the gameplay present here forces you to keep your eyes glued to your controller rather than the TV. Not once in your entire play through of Rainbow Paintbrush will you look at anything other than your WiiU gamepad. The still images scattered throughout this review barely do justice to how good Kirby’s claymation inspired world looks in full high definition glory on a big screen.īut therein lies a problem, because no matter how good the game actually looks, and it looks breathtaking, you won’t be looking at your TV screen. I’ve said time and time again that one way to draw my immediate attention to your game is to show me graphics that are different, or unique in some way (it’s a talking point in an upcoming Let’s Play I’m partway through recording actually), and the graphics of Rainbow Paintbrush are definitely eye-catchingly different. Let’s start with the graphics of the latest instalment into the Kirby franchise, because my God they’re absolutely incredible. Now they must travel back through the portal and retrieve Dream Land’s colour from the evil Claycia. Luckily Elline, a paintbrush fairy from the land of Seventopia, also came through the portal, and she uses her powers to revive Kirby and Waddle Dee. One day while Kirby is chasing an apple and Waddle Dee is fishing, a mysterious hole opens in the sky and drains all the colour from Dream Land, freezing everyone and everything in the process. Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush (known as Kirby and the Rainbow Curse in North America) is a 2D platformer in which you play as the tiny, adorable pink ball the game is named after.
